Student Project - Team Work
February - May, 2024
"Joy Rain" is a shared umbrella service system designed for Wenzhou-Kean University, aiming to provide emergency assistance to users in sudden weather changes and solve their urgent needs. The current shared umbrellas used by the school have no protection system and are prone to being lost or taken away privately. However, the rental system of this project effectively solves the problems of loss, forgetting and theft.
User Insight
Sudden rain is common on campus, and many students forget to bring umbrellas.
Although shared umbrellas exist, poor return regulation often leads to shortages at critical locations, making the system unsustainable in daily use.
Key Problems
Shared umbrellas are easily taken away without being returned
Lack of regulation and maintenance shortens service lifespan
Umbrellas are often unavailable where and when users need them most
Design Opportunity
Create a regulated and sustainable shared-umbrella system that aligns with campus movement patterns and encourages responsible borrowing behavior.
Service System
Umbrella distribution is adjusted based on daily and weekly campus movement patterns, ensuring availability at high-demand locations while enabling efficient staff maintenance.
